Building my home

Pretty special is to be able to build your own home - the way you want it.
We finally got something started on the land we bought two years ago on Mister's birthday.
Our builder is Onley Constructions a relatively small builder and I think we have chosen right. We were with a big volume builder about a year ago, named Metricon but the economy saved us. I cancelled the contract because the interest rate went sky-rocketed up to 10% p.a. How does one service a mortgage with a double digit interest rate? It's just crazy.

But fortunately (a lot of economists would disagree) the new Australian Government led by the Labor Party started pumping first owner grant incentives into the industry, supporting the continuous health of the real estate industry. As a result, a lot of first owners obtained government grants to buy or to build their first homes. Reserve Bank of Australia lowers the cash rate to 3.00% sending all banks mortgage interest rates dropping quickly and encouraging more people to take up loans. That was one of the reasons why the Australian's economy was thriving whilst most developed economies sank (except for China which the other top reason why Australia did not suffer as much).

On the home front, in a matter of 8 weeks, the builder has laid the concrete slab and the frame for our new home. Standing within the house frame makes us feel we are already home and visualising where everything would be, keep our hope alive. It's truly a wonderful feeling.
